Cytokinesis: Regulated By Destruction
نویسندگان
چکیده
Important transitions in the cell cycle are regulated by ubiquitin-dependent degradation of specific proteins. Recent data indicate that cytokinesis is also regulated by proteolysis.

The Degradation of Two Mitotic Cyclins Contributes to the Timing of Cytokinesis
BACKGROUND Cytokinesis occurs just as chromosomes complete segregation and reform nuclei. It has been proposed that cyclin/Cdk kinase inhibits cytokinesis until exit from mitosis; however, the timer of cytokinesis has not been experimentally defined. Whereas expression of a stable version of Drosophila cyclin B blocks cytokinesis along with numerous events of mitotic exit, stable cyclin B3 allo...
متن کاملSIN and the Art of Splitting the Fission Yeast Cell
The septation initiation network (SIN) triggers the onset of cytokinesis in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe by promoting contraction of the medially placed F-actin ring. SIN signaling is regulated by the polo-like kinase plo1p and by cdc2p, the initiator of mitosis, and its activation is co-ordinated with other events in mitosis to ensure that cytokinesis does not begin until chromo...
متن کاملThe Polo-like kinase Cdc5p and the WD-repeat protein Cdc20p/fizzy are regulators and substrates of the anaphase promoting complex in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Proteolysis mediated by the anaphase promoting complex (APC) has a crucial role in regulating the passage of cells through anaphase. Destruction of the anaphase inhibitor Pds1p is necessary for separation of sister chromatids, whereas destruction of the mitotic cyclin Clb2p is important for disassembly of the mitotic spindle, cytokinesis and re-replication of the genome. Pds1p proteolysis prece...
متن کاملPds1 and Esp1 control both anaphase and mitotic exit in normal cells and after DNA damage.
The separation of sister chromatids in anaphase is followed by spindle disassembly and cytokinesis. These events are governed by the anaphase-promoting complex (APC), which triggers the ubiquitin-dependent proteolysis of key regulatory proteins: anaphase requires the destruction of the anaphase inhibitor Pds1, whereas mitotic exit requires the destruction of mitotic cyclins and the inactivation...
متن کاملAlpha-actinin is required for tightly regulated remodeling of the actin cortical network during cytokinesis.
Localization of the actin crosslinking protein, alpha-actinin, to the cleavage furrow has been previously reported. However, its functions during cytokinesis remain poorly understood. We have analyzed the functions of alpha-actinin during cytokinesis by a combination of molecular manipulations and imaging-based techniques. alpha-actinin gradually dissipated from the cleavage furrow as cytokines...
